Fall 2007 Student Information

Congratulations on being accepted into the Surgical Technology Program at

North Central Texas College! The following are some forms that you will need to download , print off and bring to orientation. They are the physical form, Background Check instructions and New Student Mandatory Check List.

The physical form has two pages. The first page has the information regarding immunizations. All immunizations are recorded on this page. The second page is for your physical results. A physical can be conducted by your doctor or nurse practioner. If you do not have a private provider, there are many emergency care type clinics where a physical can be performed.

The Background Check Instructions Sheet gives details on how to conduct your background check. Once I receive you Letter of Intent form, Misty Clark will give you a passcode either by email or phone. Once you are given the passcode, please write it down on the Background Check Instructions Sheet. When you begin your background check, there will be a notation stating that you owe a $45.00 fee. This fee has already been paid for you, so do not use a credit card to pay. Wait for the office to contact you and give you a pass code. If you loose the passcode, you will have to pay the $45.00 fee that GroupOne Services charges, so hold onto the code! The background check is conducted through a secure website and the results are sent to the department office. Once you receive the passcode, you will be given one week to do the background check. The website for the background check is http://www.gp1.com/students.

The New Student Mandatory Check List Sheet is a reference to help you check-off what admissions tasks that are required for the Surgical Technology program. As you complete a task, mark each box with a check and bring all documents and information needed for your files, including the New Student Mandatory Check List Sheet, to orientation.

CPR Information

All students who seek admission to the Surgical Technology Program must be CPR certified. When choosing a CPR class, students must look for an Advanced or Rescue CPR course which includes AED, Adult, Child and Infant CPR training.

What is Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)? It is a basic emergency procedure for life support, consisting of artificial respiration and manual external cardiac massage (compressions).

Here is a list of CPR training sites you may contact for training. Besides those sites, you may want to contact local hospitals and fire departments because they sometimes offer CPR training to the public. You may go to any CPR training site as long as they offer the Healthcare Provider or Rescue CPR course.
