These are questions that ask for:
Initial or first action.
Priority factors or actions
Identification of initial or beginning signs or symptoms
Anticipated findings
These questions require you to consider all of the options as correct.
Most test-takers can narrow the options to two. Once this is done,
the test-taker should consider these additional priorities:
Is there a time element? For example: "Pre-op, post-op, during,
after, before, prior to, time parameter versus a drug’s initial
onset of action versus peak action, early, late, terminal, frequency".
Is there a sequence of human development?
What is the length of the disease process (acute or chronic)?
Many questions require that you pay attention to essential concepts,
for they will help you prioritize your care.
What are Associated Essential Concepts in type 1 questions?
Although there are others, most frequently used are these:
Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs (physiologic needs takes priority
over safety, love, belonging needs).
Kubler-Ross’ death/dying or loss Theory.
The ABCs of airway, breathing, circulation, and safety.
Internal versus external factors.
Acute versus chronic versus terminal.
