The RN-Bridge Program is
offered in the Fall semester only on Tuesday mornings from
9 am- 1 pm and is
only one semester long. Students are required to attend 8/24-hr
shifts with a fire department. The estimated cost of the course
is $1,500.00 (includes tuition and fees, books and uniform). Licensed
individuals who are qualified to take the class are Registered Respiratory
Therapists, Registered Nurses, Licensed Nurse Practitioners, Physician's
Assistants, DO's and Dr's. The requirements for the RN-Bridge to
Paramedic are as follows:
- The student must have either an Associates or Bachelor's Degree
in their field.
- The student must have worked as a RN or in their prospective
field for at least 36 months in either ICU, CCU or ER.
- The student must hold a current ACLS card.
- The student must hold a license to practice in the state of
Texas .
It is highly recommended
that the potential bridge student take an EMT Basic course prior
to the Paramedic course. This is due in part to the rules for the
National Registry Testing. Any person seeking to take the National
Registry Test for Paramedic (the test the Department of State Health
and Human Services of Texas uses for Certification and Licensure)
must be an EMT Basic. If the students opt not to take the EMT Basic
course, the RN Bridge class will go over EMT-B skills in class to
help prep for the EMT Basic Test. However, it is the student's responsibility
to register for the test and to have it completed by mid term of
the semester. No exceptions! Once the student has completed and
passed their EMT testing, they will be able to take the National
Registry test for Paramedic at the end of the semester.
