Fall 2008 ACT Meeting

The Fall 2008 Agriculture Consortium of Texas (ACT) Meeting was hosted by Odessa College. For those of you not familiar with ACT, this is a consortium of colleges and universities united in promoting Education in Agriculture in Texas. The ACT holds 2 meeting each year, one in the Fall and one during the Spring. The Spring meeting features contests for students to participate in while competing for scholarship awards. The Spring meeting is generally held at a senior university while the Fall meeting is most often hosted by a junior college. In fact, NCTC has never hosted a ACT meeting, but we are now on the schedule to host the Fall 2011 ACT meeting here on the Gainesville campus. While in Odessa for the meeting we had an opportunity to tour Manuel's Tortilla and Tamale factory, speak with the Texas State FFA Executive Director Tom Maynard, and visit the Odessa College farm and rodeo facilities. Both I and Shelly Switzer, Equine Program Coordinator, represented NCTC Agriculture at the ACT meeting and shared exciting news from NCTC with all present. We also had an opportunity to eat a meal prepared on an original chuckwagon from the XIT ranch, what an enjoyable part of our Western Heritage. Below are a few pictures from Odessa.
