History of NCTC Service Learning:

NCTC Student Life embarked on Service Learning Trips for the first time in 2008 when five students headed down to New Orleans to work with American Red Cross and Habitat for Humanity to help rebuild New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. The students were featured in a documentary called HOPE. In May 2009, students headed down to Galveston to help re-open Galveston State Park which had been closed since Hurricane Ike. The students worked on removing fences along the sand dunes as well as building picnic tables for the camp sites. In December 2009, students volunteer in San Francisco with a wildlife habitat and museum. In March 2010 students volunteered restoring Battleship Texas and Habitat for Humanity in New Orleans. In May 2010`students volunteered in St. Louis with the Parks Department, Detroit with the Mayors Office, and Chicago with a Nursing Home. In March 2011 students volunteered in New Mexico rebuilding a ramada and restroom at a historic state park.
