Books and supplies

These costs depend upon the specific courses a student takes. Nursing students, for example, will pay higher prices for their highly technical books and supplies than a student who is taking mostly academic transfer courses such as English or math.
Books and supplies will probably cost a minimum of $30.00 per semester hour. Students needing a more accurate estimate of book costs, based on the specific courses they will take, should contact the Bookstore on campus.

Bookstore

North Central Texas College operates bookstores on each of its campuses for the convenience of students. Required and supplementary textbooks, lab manuals, supplies, equipment, clothing, gift and novelty items, paperbacks, greeting cards, pharmaceutical products and other items are available for purchase. Normal hours* of operation on the Gainesville and Corinth campus are:

Monday- Thursday ………7:45am- 6:30pm
Friday……………………..7:45am- 3:00pm

The Bowie Campus Bookstore is open during registration and during posted times for book buy-back. Upon request, the Bowie Campus administrative offices will open the Bookstore for purchases.

*Since operation hours are subject to change, students are encouraged to consult the notice of current hours of operation posted on the front of each campus Bookstore.

Purchasing Textbooks

For expediency, students should present their enrollment schedules when purchasing textbooks. This will ensure that the correct textbook for a particular course is purchased. Students should remember that no credit purchases are allowed at the bookstore and should be prepared to pay by check, cash, MasterCard, or VISA.

Exchange Policy

To exchange textbooks, you must present your receipt and your fee sheet listing courses you are enrolled in. If you buy a defective new book, it should be returned IMMEDIATELY FOR EXCHANGE. A receipt MUST be presented.

Textbook Refund Policy

Refunds will be given only if a cash receipt is presented. Textbook refunds will be given during the first 12 class days (or summer session equivalent) of each semester as per terms listed below:

  • A 100% refund if a class doesn't make, provided the book is not marked or damaged. (Must present receipt and Class killed form)
  • A $3.00 processing fee will be deducted from the original selling price if the student drops the class for which the book is required. (New books must be clean and unmarked and a drop slip and receipt must be presented. If shrink wrap is removed the book can not be returned.)
  • Only 75% of a new book's purchase price if the book is marked, dirty, or damaged. (Refund checks will be mailed).
  • Optional books are nonrefundable

Book Buy-Back Policy

Students may sell their textbooks back to the Bookstore AT THE END OF THE SEMESTER for 50% of the original retail selling price, if the books are going to be used by NCTC the following semester and additional stock is needed. Buy-Back will be conducted during the week of final exams, and cash will be given for books bought back as long as Buy-Back money is available. Dates and times will be scheduled and posted prior to the end of the semester.
