Bill Caver came
to North Central Texas College in December 1977, from
East Texas State University in Commerce, where he was
working toward a doctoral degree in Counseling and Guidance.
Both his Master's and Bachelor's degrees were earned
at ETSU-Texarkana, Texas, which is his hometown. Bill
was well acquainted with the role of the community college
after beginning Texarkana Community College -- married
and with two small children -- following completion
of his tour of duty in the service.
One of the many
reasons Bill chose to work in the community college
system was the progressive way the community college
reaches out to all segments of the community to provide
services to every segment. That "not just a number "
feeling that students tell him is abundant at NCTC is
an example of the community college concept that made
him want to be a part of the innovative and dynamic
growth at NCTC.
Besides his counseling
and testing duties, Bill is also the Director of Veterans
Services. He feels a special affinity toward the veterans
attending NCTC since he served in the U.S. Navy and
is a Vietnam veteran. He was awarded the Navy Achievement
Medal with Combat "V" for meritorious service in Vietnam
from January through December, 1969. Bill's son is currently
serving in the United States Marine Corps. Bill is an
active member of the Texas Association of College Veterans
Programs Officials.
Bill is active
in his community, and this is exemplified particularly
in his long service as a reserve deputy with the Cooke
County Sheriff Department. He is a licensed peace officer
with an advanced certification and his been serving
his community in this capacity for fourteen years.
In his spare
time, Bill he likes to be involved in family activities,
and he and his wife Mary are enjoying the new thrill
of being grandparents.
