I was born in Wichita Falls, Texas and grew up in a small town, Henrietta, nearby. Both my parents and both sets of grandparents are native Texans as well. I attended the University of Texas at Austin where I earned a BA in English and French and the University of North Texas where I received my MA in English. I taught high school English in Texas public schools for 32 years before retiring this past spring. I miss the teaching, but not the hassles of working in public schools.
I met my husband, Professor Bill Franklin of NCTC, in graduate school during a conflict over who was going to check out resources for papers on Emily Dickinson. We've been debating Dickinson and other literary topics ever since. Bill and I have three children and a new grandchild, Olivia.
Besides playing with Olivia, I enjoy watercolor painting, reading, studying and reading in Spanish, doing needlework and other crafts, volunteer work in our community, and especially traveling abroad, having assisted Bill in taking NCTC students to Scotland for several years.

After earning my degree at UNT in English and Counselor Education, I went to work for the public schools as a high school English teacher for grades 9-12, and loved every minute of it. I stopped teaching to be a stay-at-home mom, but that doesn't mean I stopped working! My husband and I homeschooled our children for nine years. Working with all the students at the Writing Center gives me great joy. I love getting to meet them and helping them with their assignments. In my spare time I enjoy reading, traveling, and spending time with my sweet husband and children.

I graduated from Oklahoma State University (Go Cowboys!) with a degree in English and received my Master's Degree in Guidance and Counseling from UNT. I taught English for 26 years in junior high and at Berkner High School in the Richardson Independent School District. I worked as a school counselor in RISD and also in the Lewisville Independent School District.
After I retired in 2003, I tutored in the Writing Center at Collin County Community College, Preston Ridge Campus before joining the Writing Center at NCTC. I love tutoring in the Writing Center and I love being at NCTC!
I have a husband, one son, and one daughter. But the one that really "runs" the household is Molly, our Boston Terrier!
In my spare time, I enjoy traveling, reading, watching movies, and gardening.
Hi! My name is Cristina, and I was born in Mississippi but raised in many different places including New York, Puerto Rico, and Italy. I have lived in Texas the longest, but I’m still not used to 100 degree weather! I graduated in ‘06 from Dallas Baptist University with B.A. in English and, shortly after, began working towards my M.A. in Linguistics at UNT. I love to write and read—for pleasure, not really for homework! I first became a writing tutor at DBU where I was mentored by the writing center director, Ka Riley. I loved the job so much that after graduation I sought and accepted two new tutoring positions at UNT and NCTC.
My graduate classes have a concentration on teaching ESL. I have tutored many international students and had the opportunity of teaching an adult ESL class for one semester. I am bilingual in Spanish and have survival knowledge of Italian (“Quanto costa?”). If I could visit any place in the world, it would be Iceland. My favorite punctuation mark is the ellipsis (…) and my favorite word is valor: “that quality of mind which enables one to encounter danger and difficulties with firmness, or without fear, or fainting of heart; valor; boldness; resolution.”
I was born in Bryan, Texas. Several years later, my family moved to east Texas, where they still live. I attended the Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science in Denton, Texas, and graduated in 1999. I attended the University of Texas at Austin and received a Bachelor’s degree in 2002. I then attended the University of Southern Missippi, where I received my Masters degree in English in 2005. Currently, I attend the University of North Texas. I hope to complete my PhD in English by 2009. I currently reside in Denton with my two cats, Jethro, and Jujubee.
