Informational Interviewing Handout
One of the best ways to determine what type of career you might want to pursue is to talk with someone who is already working in your field of interest. Informational interviewing can give you the information you need to determine what type of training, education, and skills it requires to work in a particular career field.

The Career Key provides strategies to learn more about your personality type, work environments that match your personality, and careers that will best match your strengths. The website also offers a quick Career Key test for a nominal fee to help determine the careers that best suit you.

This is an excellent website which provides a list of 42 majors, potential employers, and skills needed to perform well in each career field. The website also provides links to professional organizations to help network and research careers. Tips on resume writing, interviewing, and salary negotiation are also explored.

The Advisor Team provides an opportunity to take the Keirsey Temperament Sorter to help determine your personality type at no charge. Knowing your personality type can help identify career choices that best meet the strengths of your personality.

Career Overview helps determine skills needed and salaries offered for different careers. A website geared at entry-level career searching, getthatgig.com provides a Q and A section for various fields, interviews with people presently working in the field, college recruitment and internship information, and links to professional organizations.

The second largest job search site in the United States, Careerbuilder.com allows job seekers to post resumes, search employment ads, and create job alerts to have specific positions emailed daily. Careerbuilder.com lists job vacancies for positions across the nation.
O*Net Resource Center - O*net provides a Computerized Interest Profiler to measure six occupational interests, and links to over 800 occupations. Tools are provided to help determine work interests, job values and advise on matching job skills to the needs of the labor market.
Resume maker.com – Aside from products to purchase, resumemaker.com provides 25 tips for each step of the job hunting process: resumes, cover letters, job searching, interviews, career planning, and salary negotiation. Each list is concise and informative.
Earn works.com – Earnworks.com is a website designed to provide employment counseling and candidate placement support. Though the organization does not work directly with jobseekers, the job listings are available using a visitor signon.
