On the Road Again……could be the theme song written just for Ron West, owner of Freedom Charters & Tours. This customer-friendly business located in North Central Texas, is one of Texoma's premier transportation and leisure providers, and their primary purpose is to get lots of folks back on the road again.
A few years ago West inadvertently discovered his dream job while driving part-time for a charter bus company. He found could actually make money while traveling around the country, meeting new people, and creating opportunities for his ‘new friends’ to capture precious memories as they visited fun and adventurous places together. West had always believed the only way to get ahead financially was to become a business owner, so with this idea and strategy in mind, he and his parents, Leslie and Evelyn West, began putting into motion the operation of their own charter and tour service company. The little bit of money they had to start this business was augmented by a lot of determination and faith that this was indeed their passion and calling, and the family officially kicked off the Freedom Charters & Tours business by leasing a bus in June 2003.
West had initially visited the NCTC Small Business Development Center in 2002 for guidance, then returned again in 2003 for additional assistance to insure he was prepared for the many business challenges he would face. During the first few months, times were tough and the Wests questioned whether or not they had made a large financial mistake. However, with some marketing efforts, personal contacts, and positive word-of-mouth promotions, the calls started to roll in about as fast as the big white bus began logging miles. Whether West takes a bus of senior citizens to Colorado to see a visually enticing panorama, or carries area football teams to their hopeful battle of conquest, West prides himself in treating everyone the way he would want to be treated. One young football player was so impressed by West’s friendly demeanor he said “our bus driver is the kind of person people should want to be like.” The Freedom Charter & Tours business is built on integrity and great customer service, and has reached the point that the Wests are ready to obtain a second bus and begin booking even more tours. The tour that is currently being promoted for this upcoming fall season will feature a colorful trip to the Balloon festival in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
