The North Central Texas College Visual Arts Department has announced that the bi-annual Student Art Exhibit is now open to the public for viewing.
The exhibit is located inside the NCTC Visual Arts building on the Gainesville campus. The exhibit will be open until May 2. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday through Thursday, and 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Fridays.
“There is an exceptionally strong body of work on display consisting of mixed media pieces incorporating both manmade and organic materials,” NCTC Visual Arts chairman Jimmy Staples said. “Many of the bronze works, while utilizing what is normally considered a traditional medium, are effectively executed and presented in a contemporary composition. Also included are outstanding works from ceramics, painting, and jewelry and metals.
Three cash awards are being presented. Nationally-known artist Donna Howell-Sickles will be making a $500 scholarship available. Schad and Pulte of Gainesville will be presenting two $50 awards to works demonstrating the inclusion and manipulation of metal. Finally, the People’s Choice award of $50 will be selected by ballot of those who attend the exhibit.
The exhibit is the culmination of a semester’s work for the students.
