Honors Program to present "Hollywood Does War" lecture in Corinth

CORINTH – The North Central Texas College Honors Program will present “Hollywood Does War: Contrasting Film Visions of World War II and Vietnam,” a lecture by History/Humanities Professor Jane England.  The lecture will be held Wednesday, Nov. 7, from 1 to 2 p.m., on the NCTC Corinth Campus in Room 314.

The program will include film clips and discussion of movie portrayals of World War II and Vietnam highlighting the role of film in reflecting and shaping public attitudes toward the two wars. Traditionally World War II is viewed as “the good war” and the participants are depicted as heroes while Vietnam is shown as a tragic disaster marked by incompetent leadership. Among the films included in the presentation are The Sands of Iwo Jima, Rambo; First Blood , and Platoon ; also included are  The Green Berets and We Were Soldiers, two films that show Vietnam in a more positive light.

The public is invited. Refreshments will be served.
