HVAC + Certified Green Energy Auditor

You will finish this course with designation as a Certified HVAC Technician in Texas. This five-course training program not only prepares you for opportunities in the field of air conditioning, heating and refrigeration, but provides cutting-edge instruction for analysis of home energy efficiency and retrofitting. Textbook, supplies and registration fee for TDLR application/registration included. Instructor: K. Smith & B. Moore. (290 hours).

  • Criminal Background Check Required: Texas Department of Licensing and Regulatory Services will evaluate each applicant on a case-by-case basis for certification acceptance.

 

Air Conditioning I

You will perform trade mathematical operations; identify and use HVAC tools; identify and use copper, plastic, and ferrous metal piping techniques; perform brazing and soldering operations; explain electrical and HVAC principles. (88 hrs)

Basic Electricity for HVAC

You will gain knowledge of basic principles of electricity, electrical current, circuitry, and air conditioning devices; apply Ohm's law to electrical calculations; perform electrical continuity, voltage, and current tests with appropriate meters; and demonstrate electrical safety.(88 hrs)

EPA Recovery Certification Prep

You will define refrigerant recovery, recycle, and reclaim terms; explain refrigerant recovery, recycle, and reclaim procedures; analyze refrigerant recovery, recycle, and reclaim operations; identify Type I, Type II, and Type III appliances; examine and utilize Section 608 of the Clean Air Act of 1990 Refrigerant, Recycle, and Reclaim to determine compliance. (60 hrs)

Domestic Refrigeration & Window Unit Troubleshooting & Repair

You will learn about systems operation; troubleshoot domestic refrigeration, freezers, ice makers, and window air conditioners; exhibit knowledge of refrigeration cycle theory, system recharging techniques, and refrigerant venting; and perform minor component inspection and repair. Energy Conservation

Conservation You will understand heat transfer theory; calculate head load and load heat loss; determine appropriate retrofitting techniques for existing structures and systems; discuss design and insulation techniques; and install energy saving devices. (40 hrs)
