Combination Welding Track Scholarship

for High School Seniors

What are the eligibility requirements for applicants?

  • Student must be classified as a senior for Fall 2011
  • Student must be on track to graduate in Spring 2012
  • Student must be enrolled in a Cooke County High School
  • Student must be able to attend the full program in the slated timeline

What is the curriculum for this program?                                                                                                     

This is a two-semester; 358 hour-track encompassing the following content:

  • WLDG 1007 Introduction to Welding Using Multiple Processes
  • WLDG 1013 Introduction to Blueprint Reading for Welders
  • TECM 1013 Occupational Math
  • WLD 1023 Welding Safety, Tools and Equipment
  • WLDG 1003 Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW)
  • WLDG 1043 Intermediate Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW)
  • WLDG 1006 Fundamentals of Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW)
  • WLD 2051 Advanced Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW)
  • WLDG 1002 Fundamentals of Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW)
  • WLD 2047 Advanced Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW)

What are the resulting awards and/or certifications that the student receives?

The student who successfully completes all course components receives a Marketable Skills Achievement Award - Combination Welding.  They also earn 35.8 CEU’s on their college transcript.  This training will allow them to opt for examination with the credentialing agency of their choice and to seek employment as a welder.

When is the course scheduled?

Students attend class at NCTC – Gainesville Campus for two hours per day five days per week for a period of two semesters.   The time slot is 12:55 p.m. to 2:20 p.m. Start/end dates align with high school calendars.  Class will begin on August 23.

 

What is the cost to the student and/or school district?  

Gainesville Economic Development Corporation will pay $1,000 per student directly to NCTC.  The remaining $500 may be paid by either the student (payment plan available) or the district.
