GED Academy -

Drop Out Recovery Grant

Want to take the GED exam, but need to spend some significant time preparing first? How would you like to pass the test then get the added bonus of occupational skills training? A grant recently received by NCTC from the Texas Education Agency has allowed us to establish the GED Academy to help you meet your goals!

 

Eligibility Criteria

  • Between 18 to 25
  • Dropped out of a Texas High School (proof required) OR
  • Signed out of a Texas High School and did not complete diploma (proof required)

What does the scholarship cover?

For eligible students, the scholarship covers GED prep/textbooks/testing; THEA prep/textbooks/testing and scholarship options for either occupational or credit program enrollment. 

How Many Scholarship Slots Are Available?                                         

2011-2012 slots are limited to 16 students per campus. Sessions begin in January. Enrollment is limited.

What Occupational Programs are available?

Healthcare Occupations

Nurse Aide, Clinical Medical Assistant, Medical Billing and Coding, Medical Administrative Assistant, EKG Technician, Phlebotomy Technician, Pharmacy Technician, Physical Therapy Aide, Dental Assisting

Trades

Welding, HVAC, Bookkeeping, Paralegal, Cable Installation, Automotive Body Repair

How is this Program Different?

  • Non-traditional classroom environment featuring real-life applications
  • Subject taught in short modules
  • Added component of online learning to supplement in-classroom instruction
  • The program is meant to be a GED (Fall/early Spring)to Occupational Track transition Services include advising/counseling, tutoring andcareer aptitude testing
  • Curriculum contains academic readiness, workforce skills and lifeskills
  • Ability to take GED exams per subject instead of in a 5-hour setting
  • A GED Instructor and an ESA (Essential Skills Advisor) to support students enrolled  at each site

  • Willingness to complete program admission documents
  • Willingness to set progressive goals to earn your GED in this timeline
  • Interest in one of the listed Occupational TracksWillingness to complete GED pre-testing to guide your study plan
  • Interest in enhancing your ability to be successful in the workforce
  • Initiative and drive to master the THEA exam
  • Motivation to attend class daily

How Do I Get Started with Admission?

If you meet the core requirements, contact the Essential Skills Advisor (shown below) for the campus/location you’d like attend.  You must also complete a required application; assessment testing and intake.  Leave a voice mail with call-back info.
