Biodiversity Heritage Library (BHL)

BHL is a collaborative effort of natural history and botanical garden libraries to digitize their collections and make them available as a global "biodiversity commons".  BHL also serves as the foundational literature component of the Encyclopedia of Life (EOL).


Botanical Research Institute of Texas (BRIT)

The Botanical Research Institute of Texas (BRIT) is a global institute for the conservation and preservation of botanical heritage through education, research, scientific publications and collections.  


Particularly useful is the online Encyclopedia of Plants. Browse by common or botanical name and plant category (bulbs, perennials, shrubs, etc.) for a photo, general description, cultivation and propagation tips as well as information on varieties and hybrids. Additional resource links are also provided.

"The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) defines a pesticide as "any substance or mixture of substances intended for preventing, destroying, repelling, or mitigating any pest." This site helps concerned citizens protect their children, home, work, garden, and food from the effects of pesticides. It also lists many of the effects on health to someone exposed to pesticides, what the EPA has done to protect the public from exposure, and what to do if you suspect you have been exposed. A breakdown of types of pesticides are also listed, along with information on their safe usage."

Provided by Cornell University, Vegetable MD Online was developed to provide access to the many Vegetable Disease Fact Sheets produced over the years by Media Services at Cornell. The addition of color photographs enhances the use of these sheets for plant disease diagnosis.
