NCTC Network/Internet Resource Conseration

The use of NCTC network and Internet resources, even in offices, affects resource availability in classrooms.

In order to keep network and internet resources efficient, unless needed for academic purposes:

>Do not use Internet Radio
>Do not Chat
>Do not use Instant messenger services
>Do not watch videos (unless classroom related)
>Do not view MySpace or Facebook type sites
>Do not download programs or videos

>Do not use Internet for non-work related activity during general office hours

>Do not auto archive your email on the network. (As of August 2007 we have an archive email system that does this for you.For more info on this feature, contact the Help Desk)

>Do log off when you leave for the day & lock your workstation when leaving it unattended

>Do leave computers on after hours, weekends & holidays so maintenance/updates can be run (*USERS WITH NCTC LAPTOPS should regularly leave laptops on and docked so that updates can be run.)

>Do clean up your email Inbox, delete unnecessary emails and then empty the “Deleted Items” folder

>Do Keep H and J drives trim, regularly remove unneeded documents

>Do check all email alerts and forwards at websites such as www.snopes.com or http://urbanlegends.about.com to validate

Thank you, we appreciate your assistance conserving NCTC’s technology resources.
