The NCTC-Bowie Campus opened in January of 2000, yet its presence
has already had a great impact on the lives of the Montague
County citizens. Based in an area that has been affected by agriculture
and oil industry downturns, the need for higher education and
skilled training is certainly essential.
Responding to the needs of the community, citizens of Bowie voted
a half-cent sales tax channeled through an economic development
foundation.
The 16,000 square foot, 2.196 million dollar building opened in January
2000, marking a significant moment in the city’s development.
The beautiful structure is situated on picturesque property at
the intersection of Mill Street and State Highway 287.

The Bowie Campus has a partnership with all area high schools
to meet the needs of dual-credit and college-bound students. The
curriculum
includes courses that provide a solid foundation for students transferring to
four-year universities, as well as pre-requisites for the Associate
Degree Nursing (RN) program. Every August, there is a new group
of Vocational
Nursing (LVN) students eager to complete
their program
in 12 months. Furthermore, through a Department of Education grant (WINDOWS), students attending the Bowie Campus will now be able to participate in a bridge program to transition a licensed vocational nurse (LVN) to a registered nurse (RN). Academic
courses for transfer or earning an associate
degree can also be completed locally. Another program offered on the Bowie Campus is the Associate of Arts in Teaching. Articulation agreements have been made with state universities so that AAT graduates will have a seamless transition to complete their education/certification degrees. The AAT degree satisfies the requirements for the "No Child Left Behind" act for teacher aides.
In the Fall 2009 semester , the Bowie Campus will host an exciting Oil & Gas Production Technology Program (based in newly added facility) that will offer the industry-prescribed courses leading to either a two-year Associate Degree or a one-year Certificate of Completion.
