The NCTC-Bowie Campus opened in January of 2000, yet its presence
has already had a great impact on the lives of the Montague
County citizens. Based in an area that has been affected by agriculture
and oil industry downturns, the need for higher education and
skilled training is certainly essential.
Responding to the needs of the community, citizens of Bowie voted
a half-cent sales tax channeled through an economic development
foundation.
The 16,000 square foot, 2.196 million dollar building opened in January
2000, marking a significant moment in the city’s development.
The beautiful structure is situated on picturesque property at
the intersection of Mill Street and State Highway 287.

The Bowie Campus features five regular classrooms (two of which are furnished with equipment that allows classes to be broadcasted to or from remote locations), two computer
labs, a science lab, and a vocational nursing lab.
There is also a Library/Learning
Resource Center and Bookstore.
The design and
property size will allow for considerable expansion. Click

The Bowie Campus has a partnership with all area high schools
to meet the needs of dual-credit and college-bound students. The
curriculum
includes courses that provide a solid foundation for students transferring to
four-year universities, as well as pre-requisites for the Associate
Degree Nursing (RN) program. Every August, there is a new group
of Vocational
Nursing (LVN) students eager to complete
their program
in 12 months. Furthermore, through a Department of Education grant (WINDOWS), students attending the Bowie Campus will now be able to participate in a bridge program to transition a licensed vocational nurse (LVN) to a registered nurse (RN). Academic
courses for transfer or earning an associate
degree can also be completed locally. A new program offered on the Bowie Campus is the Associate of Arts in Teaching. Articulation agreements have been made with state universities so that AAT graduates will have a seamless transition to complete their education/certification degrees. The AAT degree satisfies the requirements for the "No Child Left Behind" act for teacher aides.
Besides collegiate level course work, other community educational
services are available at the Bowie Campus. The Small
Business Development Center periodically conducts classes on how to start
small businesses, government regulations and compliance issues,
keeping records, patent, copyrights or trademark workshops.
NCTC's Division of Lifelong Learning is providing
a variety of low cost computer classes for all ages such as: First Time Computer Users, Introduction to the Internet, Beginning Word, Beginning Excel, and many more. Other courses offered through this department inlcude: Art of Photography, Conversational Spanish, English as a Second Language (ESL), and the GED Preparatory course.
