NTRN was originally formed from a 3-year grant funded by the US Department of Education. November 2003 marks the end of the grant, therefore, other means of financial assistance is needed for the program to continue. The program currently operates over 75 computers in 7 Community Technology Centers. Six of the CTC's have high-speed Internet access so that the local citizens can check email and surf the web. In addition to the convenience of Internet access, job skills training is enhanced dramatically through our program. It is obvious that computer knowledge is an essential skill in most workplaces, and training in this area could open up new opportunities for current and potential employees. The NTRN program was designed to take a person with no computer skills and teach them the basics so that they could perform in the modern workplace. Classes like "First Time User", "Microsoft Word", and "Microsoft Excel" help to build the skills necessary to succeed in jobs requiring "...basic computer knowledge."

The Community Technology Center located at the Cooke County Youth Center (Boys and Girls Club) is a great example of how our program has helped the community. This year, from June through August, the Center has received over 2300 visits by children. The computers are used to teach educational activities, assist with homework, and teach the proper use of the Internet. These specialized computers access web sites that are designed for children and limit the amount of "negative" content. Recently, the Center was remodeled to meet the heavy demand for its use (click here to read more about the renovation).

Corporate sponsorship is also available to those companies wanting to support the community. If your company would like to sponsor our program, or an individual Center, marketing and advertising arrangments can be discussed.
