Community Technology Centers
Bridging the Digital Divide Since 1999

The Community Technology Centers (CTC) were primarily created to educate local residents about basic computer skills. For many, a computer is a piece of equipment that is off limits. Those who did not receive formal education about how to use a computer are naturally afraid that they may cause permanent damage to the computer. Our CTC's help to overcome this fear.

Basic computer classes listed in the schedule are generally taught in classes of twelve students or less! Another area that has been proven to achieve high ratings is our instructional staff.. Many of these teachers are college students, retirees, and school teachers who know how to instruct on a "beginners" level. Courses are normally taught in two-hour sessions once a week, meeting four to six weeks consecutively. Due to heavy demand, it is suggested that you register for the class as soon as possible. It is not unusual to have classes fill up well before they start.

Due to the Department of Education grant ending in November of 2003, the CTC program had to shift focus in order to remain operational. Currently volunteers help staff our Community Technology Centers at the Gainesville Housing Authority and NCTC - Gainesville campus, enabling community members to coninue to use the computer cetners at no cost.
