OVERVIEW
- Concurrent (CEU) Option for Semester Credit Hours Courses
THE
OPPORTUNITY
NCTC
offers students wanting to earn CEUs the option of enrolling in
select semester-hour college credit technical courses. Lifelong
Learning students concurrently participate in the for-credit course
along with other NCTC students.
COURSE
CONTENT & INSTRUCTOR
The
course content, schedule, instructor and completion requirements
are exactly the same for Lifelong Learning students and semester-hour
credit students.
BENEFITS
The
benefit of taking a conventional semester-hour college credit course
for Lifelong Learning education purposes varies by student. For
most people, this option offers another way to upgrade skills needed
in the workplace. For others it offers a way to gain new skills
needed on the job. The concurrent enrollment option also offers
an introductory experience in a given field for those who may wish
to explore several career options.
GUIDELINES
FOR CONCURRENT ENROLLMENT
Students
may take some courses for CEU credit and others for regular semester-hour
college credit.
COURSE
FEES
Full
tuition, including all applicable lab fees are shown along with
course information for each respective class later on this page.
GUIDELINES
FOR CONCURRENT ENROLLMENT - TESTING WAIVED
Students
choosing this option may enroll in these select courses without
having to worry about taking the THEA placement exam. THEA requirements
are waived for Division of Lifelong Learning students taking these
courses for CEU credit. However, THEA requirements are waived only
for courses taken for CEUs. Students who take a combination of CEU
and regular semester-hour credit courses are subject to THEA requirements.
GUIDELINES
- GRADING
Students
receive a "satisfactory" or "unsatisfactory" rating for courses
taken for CEU credit rather than a conventional letter grade. CEUs
are awarded upon satisfactory completion.
GUIDELINES
- CONVERTING TO CREDIT
Students
completing a course for CEUs may later apply to have the course
counted for regular semester-hour college credit. If converted to
college credit, the course may then be counted toward requirements
for a certificate or a degree. Students who wish to convert the
course to college-credit may be required to pass a course content
exam.
GUIDELINES
- GPA & TRANSFER CREDIT
CEUs
earned at NCTC will be posted to a student's official transcript
as satisfactory or unsatisfactory completion. CEUs are not considered
in calculating a student's grade point average (GPA), nor are they
transferable to other colleges.
GUIDELINES
- REGISTRATION
The
registration process for students who take credit courses for CEUs
is essentially identical to that for regular semester-hour credit
courses. However, there are two exceptions: (1) the student declares
on the registration form whether they wish to take a certain course
for CEU credit or regular semester-hour credit; and (2) students
enrolling for CEU credit must write down different course numbers,
term codes and other identifiers on their registration form. (In
the Credit Schedule of Classes published for each semester,
the selected courses, which may be taken for either CEU or regular
semester-hour credit, are marked with an asterisk (*).
