Originally
organized in 1992 as the "NCTC Baseball Boosters,"
this organization of dedicated volunteers was chiefly responsible
-- from a financial standpoint -- for the establishment of
varsity intercollegiate baseball at North Central Texas College.
In the years since, the club has continued to provide outstanding
support for baseball, buts its focus has widened to include
ALL intercollegiate sports at NCTC. To reflect this, the club
officially changed its name to "NCTC Athletic Boosters
Club."
The
Boosters Club is an officially incorporated non-profit organization
which operates under the sanction of the college and the leadership
of a n Executive Committee. Current president is Jerry Meece
of Gainesville.
Fund-Raising Activities
xxxxxThe Athletic Booster
Club's principal fund-raising event of the year is its annual
Danny Darwin Celebrity
Open Golf Tournament, named for the retired major league
pitching veteran known as "the
Bonham Bullet." Since its inception the tournament,
and its Sports Memorabilia Auction, has raised well over $400,000
to support NCTC athletics. This includes paying for construction
of an Indoor Batting
Center, $64,686 to install bleachers and other finishing
touches on Darwin Fields, and scholarship endowment over $125,000
for NCTC athletics.
Membership in the NCTC Athletic
Boosters Club is open to all interested persons. If you would
like more information, contact Van
Hedrick , NCTC Athletic Director, at 940-668-4286. |
